Cultivating a Life of Gratitude

I am committing myself, during 2010, to attempt to cultivate a greater awareness of how much I have to be thankful and grateful for by sharing my daily findings and musings with you. It is my hope that by blogging about gratitude, I will be more aware of what is going on around me in my life, my family, my friends' lives and our world.

Quote of the year

Yesterday and today, I have been reading Mary Beth Chapman's book "Choosing to See" which I very highly recommend.  Mary Beth is Steven Curtis Chapman's wife and she courageously shares the story God has entrusted to her and her family.  I have not been able to put it down.  She has so many awesome quotes at the beginning of each chapter, but this one really made me pause and I've already re-read it and memorized it just this afternoon.  I'm trying to chew on it and think on it.

"Love of God is pure when joy and suffering inspire an equal degree of gratitude." Simone Weil

I believe every person knows or has known suffering in various forms and degrees.  Right now, I have friends who are wading through really difficult situations and I have friends who are celebrating times of joy.  What would it look like if we all could express gratitude to an equal degree, whether we are in a season of joy or suffering or some combination in between?
